May 10, 2021 — A Michigan-based pizza brand is putting itself out there as the purveyor of a whole new and somewhat unlikely pairing: pizza and coffee.

Klavon’s Pizzeria & Pubs owner Justin Klavon has converted his stores in Jackson (near Ann Arbor) to drive-thru coffee, bagels and pastries purveyor as well, a news release said.

The East McDevitt Avenue store — one of two in the company — now also offers coffees, pastries and bagels from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. daily using edible offerings provided from Kibby Cobb Deli. Klavon’s coffee menu includes everything from Americano and chai latte to cappuccino, hot chocolate and an assortment of teas.

“Adding drive-thru coffee service was a natural fit for our business model,” Klavon said in the release. “Our team members arrive early in the morning to prepare for opening at lunch, so it was simply a matter of identifying a coffee that matched our commitment to quality, and we found that partner in Ann Arbor-based Zingerman’s Coffee Company.”

Klavon’s Pizzeria & Pub is an upscale, casual dining concept with full cocktail service, and everything from appetizers to American, Neapolitan, Detroit-style and Chicago stuffed pizza options. While training with Italian pizzaiolos, Klavon learned espresso-based beverages and pastries are a common breakfast pairing in Italy, bringing more synergy to the coffee and pizza combo under one roof.

He is optimistic the coffee menu will become popular at the Jackson location, and plans to launch coffee service at the Mason restaurant in the fall.
