Rose Hill Center, a residential treatment facility in Holly for adults with serious mental illnesses, raised $152,000 during a recent virtual golf fundraiser.
“The funds will be used to support the Rose Hill Foundation’s Financial Assistance Fund, which helps our residents and their families fill gaps for treatment that insurance and private pay does not cover,” said Rose Hill Center President and CEO Rochelle Rothwell.
“As a private nonprofit mental health care facility, Rose Hill Center relies on philanthropic support to cover the expenses of day-to-day operations for those residents and their families who cannot afford the full cost of quality mental health care.”
The John Kelly Memorial Techno Invitational replaced what has been a live event at the Bloomfield Hills Country Club for nearly three decades. The invitational is named after John Kelly, the son of Rose Hill Center’s co-founders Dan and Rosemary Kelly, who died in October 2019. John’s struggle with mental illness served as the inspiration and catalyst for building the treatment center.
“It is rare to find a family who is not affected by mental illness – whether it is a loved one, friend or colleague. Our stakeholders rallied their support to help us reach and pass our fundraising goal. We weren’t sure how a virtual event would be received, but the outpouring of support was truly uplifting,” said Dan Kelly.
In 2003, the Rose Hill Foundation was established to manage and steward philanthropic funds received on behalf of the Rose Hill Center. Since then, the number of applicants to Rose Hill Center who can’t afford the full cost of quality mental health care — and don’t qualify for assistance for residential treatment, either from a publicly supported mental health agency or from an insurance provider — has continued to rise dramatically.
While Rose Hill Center strives to offer reasonable fees for treatment, the lack of insurance benefits and other support for mental health services means out-of-pocket costs are beyond the reach of many residents and their families. Numerous families face tough personal and financial choices in order to fund their loved one’s mental health treatment. In response to this challenge, Rose Hill Center established a Financial Assistance Fund.
