Detroit’s newest boutique hotel is now officially open.
The Godfrey Hotel Detroit, 1401 Michigan Ave. in Corktown, is a newly constructed building and has 227 rooms, as well as a grand ballroom and a rooftop bar and lounge with a retractable glass ceiling, known as the I∣O Rooftop lounge.
Later this fall, the hotel also will house a new bar and restaurant, Hamilton’s, which will offer classic American fare.
The hotel is the fifth location for the Godfrey Hotel brand after Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles and Tampa, Florida. Nightly rates start at about $200.
It is the third new hotel to open in Detroit since Memorial Day. The other new arrivals are the 154-room Cambria Hotel Detroit, 600 W Lafayette Blvd. in downtown, and the 117-unit ROOST extended-stay apartment hotel, situated in Dan Gilbert’s newly restored Book Tower, 1265 Washington Blvd., also in downtown.

Detroit has experienced a mini-boom in boutique hotels since the mid-2010s, including the arrivals of Aloft, Shinola, Foundation and Siren hotels.
The Godfrey was co-developed by Farmington Hills-based Hunter Pasteur Homes and Chicago-based Oxford Capital Group. The co-developers, along with The Forbes Company, also are building a nearby 188-unit apartment building called Perennial Corktown.
