(WXYZ) — In tonight’s 7 UpFront report we’re taking the opportunity to focus on what you need to know about suicide prevention as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
Joining us to talk about it is Amelia Lehto, who sits on the Advisory Council of Kevin’s Song.
“Kevin’s Song, our mission here is to empower communities to prevent suicide and to offer support and healing to survivors and we do this in a variety of ways, such as outreach, education, and supporting those impacted by suicide,” Lehto says. “And one way people can get involved if they’ve lost somebody to suicide is to attend our suicide loss support group that we hold on the first Wednesdays and third Thursdays of every month via Zoom, currently. We also have a conference in January 2022, Equity and Equality in Suicide Prevention: Expanding the Conversation and Offering Solutions, which will be held virtually with respect to COVID guidelines from January 27th to January 29th and we are honored to have the Children’s Foundation supporting us this year in featuring our school summit, which is really exciting, to focus on the educations who are out in the communities, working with our young people particularly.”
